Oxford Anti-inflammatory, Anti-Tumor (and more) Healing with Frankincense and Myrrh

Frankincense and myrrh, two respected gifts taken from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia and the Commiphora, respectively – make amazing partners in healing! Both have been used throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, particularly Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more properties address issues with many different health conditions, many that Satterwhite Chiropractic sees in our Oxford chiropractic patients who may want to know more!

THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh

Chinese medicine admires frankincense and myrrh for their extensively beneficial health effects. Used in combination, their anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and notably for anti-tumor effects prevented growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh are components of an anti-tumor drug for a variety of cancers with recent research showing its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By monitoring pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and affecting the blood vessels that support tumors in HCC. Tumor volume was decreased, and pathological structure was diminished with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh modulated urotheilial wound healing to improve symptoms of acute interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome.  (3) The frankincense/myrrh comination proves itself to be a winning/healing one!

NEUROPATHIC PAIN

Satterwhite Chiropractic welcomes combinations of treatments to help our Oxford chiropractic patients seeking healing. Chinese medicine addresses diabetic neuropathy, a critical complication of diabetes and cause of kidney disease, by regulating pathways having to do with the glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation, anti-inflammation, anti-fibrosis, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is described as having the ability to activate blood and disperse blood stasis. The mix was put to the test and found to reduce neuropathic pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to averting TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). Satterwhite Chiropractic knows all this detail may not be your “thing” of wanting to know, but we want to give you the whole story if only to get to the point that frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great effect!
