WHO SMOKES?
Researchers are inquisitive about issues
linked to smoking. In a review of 7547 patients who went
through back surgery, they found
that 18% were smokers. The researchers noted that contrasted
with the non-smokers, the smokers were younger, male,
nondiabetic, and nonobese. These patients who have coronary artery disease were more liable to be
smokers. Smokers who had lumbar spine back surgery presented
initially more with leg pain than
back pain and disability. Their employment, insurance/uninsured, and education
status were also linked to smoking status. Interestingly
though, smoking status did not influence the
disability status one year after back surgery. (1) Altering
such risk factors work just as well for smokers and nonsmokers
luckily. Satterwhite Chiropractic would encourage a Oxford
smoker dealing with Oxford back pain to stop smoking.
SMOKING’S EFFECTS ON THE BODY
The body knows what’s good for it…and what’s not. Smoking is not. Examining 2307
smokers and non-smokers, researchers found that smoking is most
strongly associated with spine pain. Headache,
trunk pain and limb pain followed. Active smoking is linked to pain in every part of the body. The spine and head withstand
the force of the painful effect though. If a smoker
doesn’t like pain, you’ll want to think
about stop smoking! (2) Satterwhite Chiropractic is with you to support
your effort to stop smoking when you are
ready.
