Dizziness can be troubling. Satterwhite Chiropractic
often sees neck pain patients with dizziness seeking a cause and a solution. Oxford chiropractic
care of dizziness starts with a thorough examination
to establish a potentially relieving treatment plan
for dizziness associated with spinal issues like Oxford
neck pain.
UPPER CERVICAL SPINE ISSUES AND DIZZINESS
The structure and function of
the upper cervical spine may well contribute
to dizziness. Issues with upper cervical spine ligaments and muscles may contribute to
cervicogenic dizziness. How? Such problems may cause
confusion for the proprioception system managed in part
by the vestibular nucleus. Alterations in the
ligaments and muscles may initiate abnormal reactions that lead to dizziness. (1) Satterwhite Chiropractic welcomes many Oxford neck pain patients with dizziness.
NECK PAIN AND CERVICOGENIC DIZZINESS IMPROVED WITH
CHIROPRATIC CARE
Cervicogenic dizziness is defined as dizziness
that happens in patients with neck pain. No specific
test for cervicogenic dizziness is know,
but patients with neck pain because of a cervical spine pathology who
have dizziness present to doctors for help.
What could the link be? Cervical muscles connect and
interact with the vestibular, visual, and higher centers to generate
useful proprioception, the awareness of body
position and movement. When such proprioception is changed due to neck pain, the dizziness may arise as well. One
new case report of a female aged 24 years
with cervicogenic dizziness
and neck pain reported improvement of both with
chiropractic care. (2) Satterwhite Chiropractic begins chiropractic care
with an exam that leads to an alleviating
Oxford chiropractic treatment.
DIZZINESS AND NECK PAIN RELIEF
Correlating imbalance
and dizziness with neck pain not associated with any other
disorders discovered via a thorough
examination is important to relief for cervicogenic
dizziness. Manual therapy and vestibular rehabilitation succeeded in
relieving pain for patients in a new paper. (3) Dizziness
may result from damage to the somatosensory system. Upper cervical
spine manipulation was tested in patients with cervicogenic
dizziness. In addition to a reduction in the intensity of the dizziness
and pain, an increase in the range of motion toward the more
restricted side and better function were also reported.
